Kaliganj Upazila Health and P&P Officer

According to the Kaliganj Upazila Health and P&P Officer, about 3 lakh people live in Kaliganj Upazila of Satkhira district. There is a 50-bed Upazila Health Complex, 4 sub-health centers, about 25 private clinics and diagnostic centers for healthcare.

On the spot, at around 1 pm, it was seen that the room of Upazila Health and P&P Officer Md. Bulbul Kabir was locked. The lab room was locked, there was no doctor anywhere except for emergencies. On going to the general bed on the 2nd floor of the hospital, it was seen that lunch was being served to the patients. A piece of pangasius fish weighing 25 to 30 grams and thick rice were served for lunch. On going to the bathroom, it was seen that the sewage system was very bad. The toilets are very dirty, the doors cannot be closed from the inside. Many patients expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of food and the quality of service. Meanwhile, a class IV employee from the quarters called the health and medical officer and unlocked the officer’s room and let this reporter sit. When we talked to the Kaliganj Upazila Health and Medical Officer about the general issue, he said with some annoyance, are you coming to see the quality of food or not? Everything is fine. In response to the question that there are no MBBS doctors in private clinics, he said, where will private clinics and diagnostic centers get doctors where there are no MBBS doctors in government hospitals. There are only 4 out of 23 MBBS doctors in my hospital. I have no information about patient dissatisfaction.

When we talked to Civil Surgeon Satkhira Dr. Md. Abdul Salam about the general issue, he said, where will private hospitals get MBBS doctors, there is no opportunity for the Upazila Health and Medical Officer to make such a statement. All private clinics and diagnostic centers must be operated in accordance with the rules and regulations. There is no opportunity to operate private clinics and diagnostic centers in Satkhira district without following the rules and regulations. I will visit all clinics and diagnostic centers in Kaliganj Upazila very soon and take appropriate legal action against them. Besides, if there is any irregularity and mismanagement in the Upazila Health Center, action will also be taken against it. There is no opportunity to compromise with health services during the current interim government.
